Quantity can sometimes have a quality of its own and Diablo 4 runs pretty far with that idea. If Diablo 3 stripped any possible source of friction, the fourth major instalment in the franchise errs in the opposite direction and finds both value and identity in building things back up. One of the few things Blizzard hasn’t tried to do with the series at this point is to make it more complicated. They’ve even done so on mobile via Diablo Immortal. At this point, series veterans have slashed their way through the hordes of hell more times than they can count. Over the years, developer Blizzard Entertainment has spiced up that format with fresh reasons to slay monsters, new varieties of foes to face off against and a host of armaments and abilities with which to vanquish them. The 360Hz touch sampling rate should make it lightning fast to react too. We tried the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and 18GB of RAM for power, and the 6.78-inch, 144Hz refresh rate AMOLED screen for the visuals. Blizzard’s “Diablo: What’s Next” sessions detailed how the world will include specifically designed dungeons built for parties in mind. It appears this will also have some influence on the game’s overall design, too. We saw up to eight players in the gameplay cinematics shown at Blizzcon. This also means you won’t be limited to a four-player party but instead can form much larger dungeons. Unlike past Diablo games, Immortal will be massively multiplayer, with persistent outdoor zones populated by other players. While the mobile game is true to the Diablo style in many ways, there is one notable departure, and that’s in multiplayer. ![]()
